It’s been a while since my last hospital duty, and I can’t wait to go back. I miss wearing “pajamas" like this to work. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Shoutout to all the healthcare professionals who were assigned a holiday duty this week. 🙏🎅 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ With this post I’d like to shed some light about the hospital duty schedules of medical clerks, post-graduate interns, and resident doctors in training in the Philippines. It could vary per hospital and department, but my usual pre-duty-from cycle used to go like this. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ☝️Let’s start with Monday. I am on “pre duty status” – that’s 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. I get to go home (or go out) after that. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✌On Tuesday, I show up for my "duty status", which is from 7:00 am up to 7:00 am of Wednesday the next day. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👌On that same Wednesday, I don’t get to go home right away. I still have to serve my post-duty status from 7:00 am to 12:00 nn, or sometimes up to 5:00 pm too. (That’s up to 34 hours up on call, made possible by stolen power naps and our favorite energy drink even back then #LipovitanPH #LipovitanGetsYouGoing) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👊On Thursday, I show up for pre-duty again (7-5pm!) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👋On Friday to Saturday is another 24 hour duty status. Since it’s Saturday, I won’t have to serve my “from duty status” anymore, and since it’s also Sunday the next day, I won’t go to the hospital at all for my “pre duty”. (If it’s a weekend or a non-working holiday, only those on duty status have to show up. We call this a "weekend off", which only happens once every 3 weeks.) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👩‍⚕️I start off Monday again for another 24 hour duty shift. Tuesday is another "from duty”. And so on and so on. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Any questions?
